CAMPO CERRADO ACTUALIZACIÓN II - COURSE CLOSED UPDATE II

CAMPO CERRADO - Actualización II

Estimados socios,

COURSE CLOSED - Update II

Dear Members,

As we indicated last week, we are working very hard to open the course as soon as possible. After a week working and cleaning the course, disappointingly, we now realise that the scope of the disaster is much bigger than originally expected.

We started last week with the cleaning of the complete routing of cart paths to enable our machinery to easily move around the course with our manpower and their equipment.  This was followed by the removing of the debris, wood trunks, etc.; this action is at present still underway. At the moment our priority, apart from securing the course, is try to save all the grass that has been covered by silt and mud; it is an extremely slow, painstaking process that needs special care, particularly to save our greens and tees.  Once this is completed, we should be able to move to other tasks - repairing bunkers, landscaped areas, fairways, cart paths, irrigation system, clogged drainages, and so on.

Next Monday, December 19th, we will issue another report updating you on the state of the course, hopefully with a possible opening date for the front 9 holes.

Thank-you for you continued patience.

The Execuitve Committee.

LIMPIEZA DEL LAGO HOYO 16 - CLEANING OF THE LAKE ON 16TH

-->

Some concern has arisen in relation to the weeds on 16th lake. There are no algae in this lake but two types of aquatic weeds that makes the situation further more difficult.
  • Duckweed (Spirodela and Lemna species): floating weeds. They are washed down the lake after heavy rain every year. Difficult to collect (using nets hundreds of fish are also killed).
  • Coontail (Ceratophyllum species): submerged weed. Can be removed by raking but will re-establish from any remaining fragments.
So far no herbicide option is available. Removal is difficult in both cases, and results have a short duration. We must be aware that this is a creek and there is no option to control contamination from upstream. Fish is also a big concern.
We are now removing manually these weeds as we have tried, with no success, using blue dye to prevent Coontail, and grass carps to control both.

Landscaping Project at 13th Tee

Real Club de Golf Las Brisas has defined an environmentally sound landscaping design for the course. In order to highlight its magnificent arboretum, woody bushes on the course were eliminated, leaving only a line of traditional Adelfas in the perimeter, which brings some privacy to the players and provides a touch of colour in spring and summer.

Old bushes have been replaced with a more adapted variety of grassy plants that tolerate drought and low maintenance regimes.

Still, some special corners in our course, in areas out of play, deserve a special flair.- around the 13th tee is one of them.

The landscaping company Artbusto, was selected to do the design. This work will define the basic principles to follow in the future in these areas.

ARTBUSTO DESIGN PLANS

Without a doubt, this area will look beautiful and stunning very soon.
We hope you will enjoy it.

Palm Red Weevil Control

Palm Red Weevil is a pest that is dramatically affecting Palm trees in the Iberian Peninsula, reducing their population in many places. After several years of research, we have learnt to develop control programs using diverse strategies.

At Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, we are implementing state of the art techniques, including biological control, to save the valuable specimens of  Phoenix canariensis and Phoenix dactylifera in our course. Keeping our staff well trained and educated is very important.
Integrated Pest Management tries to solve this problem using different strategies:

SCOUTING TO CONTROL ADULT POPULATION

Using tramps, we can identify when adults fly to program a more effective treatments.

PREVENTION USING BIOLOGIC CONTROL

Natural fungus is used to infect this insect to control pests in an innocuous way.

PROGRAMING TREATMENTS

To kill insects once they have entered in the palm.

IDENTIFYING PALMS AFECTED BY THIS PEST

Using trained dogs to confirm when palms are infected.

SURGERY AND INJECTIONS

Following our arborist from Doctor Arbol guidance, we do surgery and clean up the affected crowns, injecting the most effective insecticides in the trunk.

We are proud to have Fernando Gutiérrez in our team as Palm Specialist. Alberto Díaz-Galiano and Daniel González, certified arborists, help us to control in the best possible way this pest out of our palm trees.

Volviendo a la naturaleza - Going back to nature

According to the policy of naturalization of Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, we have found the opportunity to change the old benches to others, home made using Eucalyptus pruning wastes. Back to nature, integrating all elements of the course, gives meaning to our management, making it more integrated with the environment.

We hope you will be satisfied with the result.
