INFORME SOBRE EL CAMPO - GREENS REPORT

INFORME DEL COMITÉ DE CAMPO -  31 de octubre de 2012.

Estimados socios:

GREENS REPORT 31st October 2012.

Dear Members,

We would like to give you an update on the course, both the progress on the renovation of the front nine holes and the condition of the back nine holes.

1. Front Nine.

Southern Golf has now completed their contracted works to the front nine holes.  The remaining machinery should be removed shortly; following this, there will be some minor repairs to buggy paths and other small repairs to lake walls, etc.

Our biggest task now is the installation of bunker liners and drainage flushing to each of the fifty bunkers on the front nine. It is extremely important for the Course Manager to choose the correct bunker sand for its playability and to have it laboratory tested to ensure its compatibility with our new USGA specification greens.

Due to the delay in the renovation project, we have missed the opportunity for our Bermuda fairways to grow into a decent condition prior to the winter dormancy. Our Course Manager has recommended that we overseed this year. He will give his professional recommendation annually if it would be beneficial for the presentation and condition of the course.

Overseeding to all areas apart from greens and tees was recently completed, but unfortunately due to the enormous amount of rain on the 25th and 26th October (hundred litres per square metre), this will need to be reseeded again starting the week beginning 29th October. We are hopeful that the whole course should be playable around the 20th December 2012 (WEATHER PERMITTING). This is two months past our original estimated date of opening and the explanation and details of the extended works have been published in the monthly reports produced by our General Manager.

We believe the refurbishment has been a great success.  The Membership has got fantastic value for their money.  Moreover, the quality of the design will ensure that this being the first of two phases (subject to Members’ agreement on the back nine) that when fully completed, will reinstate Real Las Brisas back to being regarded as the best Member’s course on the Costa del Sol.  This must be good for the Members and will help secure the financial future of the Club.

2. Back Nine

All fairways have been overseeded and the summer weeds are now dying with the lower evening temperatures.  These nine holes will unfortunately look like the poor relation until we are able to upgrade and renovate.   We are confident that the new Course Manager will do his best to present this nine in the best possible condition, but we must be realistic and always bear in mind the poor growing medium and irrigation cover.

The Greens Committee.

From today 11th of October 2012 you can place de ball through the green.

Adverse conditions, including the poor condition of the course or the existence of mud, are sometimes so general, particularly during winter months that the Committee may decide to grant relief by temporary Local Rule either to protect the course or to promote fair and pleasant play. The Local Rule for “Preferred Lies” and “Winter Rules” should be withdrawn as soon as the conditions warrant. The recommended wording for such a Local Rule is contained in Appendix I, Part B of the Rules of Golf. It is not sufficient to simply say “preferred lies/winter rules” apply.
