Gerald Huggan, inglés, afíncado en España desde finales de los años 60 ha complementando en perfecta armonía el diseño y paisajismo del Real club de Golf Las Brisas, como si de un
jardín botánico se tratase, plantas y árboles de todos los continentes
llenan el campo de imaginación y colorido. Aquí se encuentran especies únicas y
raras de África, como el Castaño de Cabo, Acacias Espinosas, Laureles de la India, Mysore Ficus de Asia, Chorisias speciosas de América, Fresnos Verdes de
Méjico, y el Pino Silbante de Australia, junto con numerosas palmeras y
árboles mediterráneos. Como complemento al original diseño de Robert Trent Jones Sr., D. José Banús encargó la jardinería
y el arboretum del campo al inglés Gerald Huggan, que acababa de
regresar de Kenia donde había diseñado los jardines de Nairobi, gran
especialista en plantas subtropicales. En el RCG Las Brisas podemos disfrutar
de su trabajo e imaginación. Tambien ha estado al cargo de proyectos de gran talla como el Marbella Club, La Zagaleta, Finca Cortesín y Montecastillo entre otros.
El comité de bienvenida los compusierón parte del Comité de Campo; Sr. José Azpilicueta, Sr. Gerry Mcguinness, el Director de Campo, Sr. Rafael González-Carrascosa y del Director General, el Sr. Paul Muñoz Langley. Junto con el Sr. Huggan, nos acompañó su mano derecha durante todos estos años, Sr. Juan Macías.
El Presidente en nombre del Club está eternamente agradecido por el legado del Sr. Huggan y el asesoramiento y consejos recibidos durante la visita de hoy.
Perfectly complementing the design of the golf course
is the harmonious landscaping created by Englishman Gerald Huggan, who paid us with a visit today. Much
like a botanical garden, plants and trees from all the continents of
the world fill the course with imagination and colour. Here you will
find rare species from Africa such as the Cape Chestnut and Spiny
Acacias, the Indian Laurel and Mysore Ficus from Asia, Chorisia Spciosa
from America, the Green Ash from Mexico, and the Whistling Pine from
Australia, combined with numerous palms and Mediterranean trees. The Englishman Gerald Huggan was commissioned by D. José Banús to
design the landscaping and the course's arboretum. Gerald Huggan, a
great specialist in subtropical plants, had just returned from Kenya
where he had designed the Nairobi gardens. Here at Las Brisas we can
enjoy his work and imagination. He has also taken care of projects like Marbella Club, La Zagaleta, Finca Cortesin and Montecastillo among others.
The welcome Committee today was composed by part of the Greens Committee; Mr. José Azpilicueta, Mr. Gerry McGuinness, Course Manager, Mr. Rafael González-Carrascosa and General Manager, Mr. Paul Muñoz Langley. With Mr. Huggan came his right-hand man Mr. Juan Macías.
