Palm Red Weevil Control

Palm Red Weevil is a pest that is dramatically affecting Palm trees in the Iberian Peninsula, reducing their population in many places. After several years of research, we have learnt to develop control programs using diverse strategies.

At Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, we are implementing state of the art techniques, including biological control, to save the valuable specimens of Phoenix canariensis and Phoenix dactylifera in our course. Keeping our staff well trained and educated is very important.

Integrated Pest Management tries to solve this problem using different strategies:

SCOUTING TO CONTROL ADULT POPULATION

Using tramps, we can identify when adults fly to program a more effective treatments.

PREVENTION USING BIOLOGIC CONTROL

Natural fungus is used to infect this insect to control pests in an innocuous way.

PROGRAMING TREATMENTS

To kill insects once they have entered in the palm.

IDENTIFYING PALMS AFECTED BY THIS PEST

Using trained dogs to confirm when palms are infected.

SURGERY AND INJECTIONS

Following our arborist from Doctor Arbol guidance, we do surgery and clean up the affected crowns, injecting the most effective insecticides in the trunk.

We are proud to have Fernando Gutiérrez in our team as Palm Specialist. Alberto Díaz-Galiano and Daniel González, certified arborists, help us to control in the best possible way this pest out of our palm trees.

Control de Picudo Rojo en Palmeras

El picudo rojo es una plaga que está afectado a las palmeras de la península ibérica drásticamente, reduciendo la población en muchos lugares. Después de varios años de investigación, hemos aprendido a desarrollar programas de control con estrategias variadas.

En el Real Club de Golf Las Brisas estamos implementando las técnicas más avanzadas, incluyendo la lucha biológica, para salvar los especímenes de Phoenix canariensis y Phoenix dactylifera de nuestro campo. La formación de nuestro personal es muy importante.

La lucha integrada intenta afrontar este problema desde varios frentes:

SEGUIMIENTO DE LA POBLACIÓN DEL INSECTO ADULTO

Mediante el uso de trampas, identificamos las épocas de vuelo de adultos para programar los tratamientos.

PREVENCIÓN CON LUCHA BIOLÓGICA

El uso de hongos que infectan los insectos ayuda a controlar la población de una forma natural e inocua.

TRATAMIENTOS PROGRAMADOS

Para controlar una vez el insecto ha entrado en la palmera.

IDENTIFICACIÓN DE PALMERAS AFECTADAS

El uso de perros entrenados nos ayuda en caso de dudas.

PODAS QUIRÚRGICAS E INYECCIONES

Siguiendo las instrucciones de nuestros arboristas de Doctor Árbol, realizamos cirugía y limpieza a las más afectadas, inyectando en tronco los insecticidas más efectivos.

Tenemos la suerte de contar con Fernando Gutiérrez en nuestra plantilla como especialista de poda. Con la ayuda de Alberto Díaz-Galiano y Daniel González, arboristas certificados, podemos actuar de la mejor forma posible para salvar nuestras palmeras de esta letal plaga.

Volviendo a la naturaleza - Going back to nature

Siguiendo la política de naturalización de Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, hemos encontrado la oportunidad de cambiar los bancos de madera por otros realizados con restos de poda de Eucaliptus que permiten la reutilización de este residuo. Volver a la naturaleza, integrándo todos los elementos del campo, da sentido a nuestra gestion, haciendola mas integrada con el medio ambiente.

According to the policy of naturalization of Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, we have found the opportunity to change the old benches to others, home made using Eucalyptus pruning wastes. Back to nature, integrating all elements of the course, gives meaning to our management, making it more integrated with the environment.

La Agencia Estatal de Meteorología ha activado Alerta de Viento, con rachas de 80 km/h durante todo el día en la zona.
Les pedimos extremen la atención ante posibles caídas de ramas, y que ante la duda pospongan su partida.

PRE-APERTURA * PRE-OPENING OF THE BACK NINE

La pre-apertura de ayer, 30 de Octubre de 2015, fue todo un éxito, los segundos nueve hoyos rediseñados por Kyle Phillips, construidos por Garden & Golf y el nuevo bar fueron estrenados por algunos de los miembros de la Junta Directiva y otros socios que han estado implicados en este proceso de reforma. Un día de sol espectacular amenizó el gran evento. Este evento cierra así uno de los capítulos más importantes en los anales de la historia del club, terminando una de las fases más importantes de la renovación del diseño de 1968 de Robert Trent Jones Sr., que permanecerá abierto a diario al juego, siempre que el tiempo lo permita. Ya solo quedan fases de calibre más pequeño, como la renovación del campo de prácticas y la mejora de algunos aspectos de algunos de los hoyos de la primera vuelta.

Aprovecho para dar gracias por el enorme esfuerzo y profesionalidad mostrada por todos los profesionales implicados en el proyecto. A la Junta Directiva que por su maravillosa vocación, defendido este bonito proyecto hasta el mismísimo final, a todos los socios por la enorme paciencia que han mostrado y como no a lo mejor del Club, el personal, sin ellos nada de esto hubiera sido posible.

¡Ahora solo queda disfrutar, así pues, buen golf a todos!

The pre-opening of the Back Nine holes was a success yesterday, October,30th 2015. The redesigned back 9 holes by Kyle Phillips and constructed by Garden and Golf were tested by some of the Members of the Executive Committee and some influential Members that have worked hard for this project together with the inauguración of the New 19th Hole Bar. The weather was fantastic and the event closes one of the most important chapters in the history of the Club, the Renovation of the 1968 Robert Trent Jones Sr. course. Now, with only minor phases to accomplish, like the renovation of the practice range and some tweaks of the front nine, we have almost have a complete full renovated course, that will be open from today on in a daily basis, weather permitting.

I hereby like to say thank you to all the persons involved in the project, the Executive Committee for beleiving in the project right up until the end altruistically and the Members for the extraordinary patience showed. Last be not least the Staff, without them this wouldn't have been possible.

Now let's just enjoy, Good golfing!
